EnglishOne of the most beautiful stations in the world is being created in Uelzen!In conjunction with local partners DB German Railways are realizing the spectacular redevelopment of the station in the town of Uelzen. An innovative concept was developed to revive the station and its surroundings as a contribution to the world exposition EXPO 2000. The Ecological and Cultural Station combines ecological ambitions and artistic enthusiasm. The world famous artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser is the master builder. He manages to bring together artistic attractiveness and ecological functionality. An old station in new splendour. Modern technology integrated in a marvellously beautiful building. Visiting the Hundertwasser Architectural Project is an unforgettable experience. At the beginning of the new millennium Uelzen has once again become an important railway junction. Here, the North-South Main Line from Hamburg to Hanover meets the America Line from Berlin to Bremen. From Hanover, the world exposition s host city, you can reach one of the finest stations in the world by train within 44 minutes. THE CONCEPTThe Hundertwasser Architectural Project is an integral part of an overall concept containing the following projects: Rail & SunThe station is also a solar power plant. On the roof of the station building and in the platform zones large solar panels have been installed. The implementation of this ecologically sound way of producing energy has become a role model for station redevelopment.
With an output of almost 100 KWp it is one of largest solar plants in northern Germany. Mobility Centre "Mobilzentrale"The aim is to make a demonstrative contribution to ecologically sound travel by linking the various means of transport in an intelligent way. Travelling becomes more comfortable as its attractiveness is improved.
The new AchterBahn DistrictIn the next few years a new district will be created on the site of the former railway sidings. This is a contribution to space-saving town development. Also, in this way, the station 's central position will be underlined.
